Newtown Twp. Police Assist In Arrest Of Suspects Eyed In Local Burglary Spree

Two suspects were arrested and are potentially linked to a series of local burglaries.

Newtown Township police and other agencies assisted Northampton Township police in apprehending two suspects Monday night.

The two suspects, who were arrested in Richboro, are believed to be linked to a recent series of burglaries in the area, according to police.

“Police confronted the suspects who were loitering and prowling in a rear yard,” a statement from authorities said.

Giorgi Maxarashvili, 40, who is homeless, and Zurab Kenkishvili, 43, of Middlesex, New Jersey, were nabbed following a foot chase through Richboro, police said.

Maxarashvili was apprehended first, and Kenkishvili was captured shortly afterward, police said.

Investigators were probing as of Tuesday whether the suspects’ had involvement in other area burglaries, police said.

In addition to Newtown Township police, Northampton Township officers were assisted by Lower Southampton Township and Upper Southampton Township police.

Maxarashvili and Kenkishvili were charged with attempted burglary and evading arrest. Kenkishvili was additionally charged with possession of an instrument of crime with intent and loitering and prowling at night. Both were preliminarily arraigned before District Judge Mark Douple and held on 10 percent of $500,000 bail.

Additionally, a detainer has been lodged against Kenkishvili by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.
