A medical helicopter from the Temple University Health System is now based at St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown Township.
The Temple MedFlight chopper, which operated in partnership with air ambulance company Air Methods, began operating out of the hospital helipad last month.
The helicopter will provide rapid transport for critically ill or injured patients in Bucks County and Philadelphia.
The EC-135 medical transport helicopter can travel anywhere within a 100-mile radius and will be available around the clock.
“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to delivering high-quality, lifesaving care to every corner of our region,” said Andre Boyd, president and CEO of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, which operates St. Mary Medical Center.
Abhinav Rastogi, executive vice president of Temple University Health System and president and CEO of Temple University Hospital, said the partnership will ensure patients “get coordinated and enhanced access to high-acuity treatment any time in any kind of weather.”
“We are proud to join forces with Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic and Temple Health to bring lifesaving air medical services to more communities across Pennsylvania,” said Steve Konold, vice president of Air Method’s Northeast Region.
While St. Mary Medical Center has long had a helipad that has been used by medical helicopters, the Temple MedFlight chopper is the first to be based at the hospital full time.
The helicopter can transport patients to the most best suited medical facility, which includes ones outside of the Temple University and Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic systems.
Critical care is led by a flight crew from the Temple Transport Team (T3) and aviation services are provided by Air Methods.
The Temple MedFlight helicopter was previously based at Doylestown Hospital. That hospital is now operated by the University of Pennsylvania Medicine system, and its PennSTAR helicopter is based there.
