Memorial Day weekend is a time to remember those who sacrificed everything in service of our country.

This year, like years past, will be filled with events in the Newtown area.

Sunday

1 p.m.: Washington Crossing Historic Park will hold a Memorial Day observation at 1638 River Road in Solebury Township with a colonial color guard, a fife and drum corps, Revolutionary War reenactors, veterans, and other honored guests. During the ceremony, American flags will be placed on all of the graves.

9 p.m.: Sesame Place in Middletown Township will host fireworks for the Memorial Day weekend.

Monday

9 a.m.: American Legion Post 440 in Newtown Borough will hold a parade that will start at Newtown Commons West on the Newtown-Yardley Road. The parade will march Newtown Legion Morell Smith Post 440. (Details on road closures in Newtown Borough and Newtown Township)

10 a.m.: The Newtown Historic Association is holding a “A Tribute to Veterans” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Newtown Historic Association’s Callahan Research Center at 100 Mercer Street in Newtown Borough. There will be photos of soldiers, letters written by soldiers, military shoulder patches, and information on locals who served.

10:45 a.m.: Washington Crossing National Cemetery at 830 Highland Road in Upper Makefield Township will hold a remembrance service at the base of the main flagpole.

Noon: The Newtown Athletic Association will host an old-time baseball game using old-fashioned rules at Pickering Field at Jefferson Avenue and Chancellor Street in Newtown Borough.
